#27: OWN YOUR CRAZINESS
Are you starting something new? Something that doesn't fit into the status quo? Something that takes you down a path that most people don't tread through?
Are you? Well, if you are, then I believe you know that being odd in the midst of many comes with the package of trailing a path that no one's ever followed, or a path that many don't find normal to follow.
This means there's definitely going to be some ups and downs before things start taking shape.
When I started writing, people said a lot of things. Some said I was weird. Some said I was trying to showoff.
In fact, some said I didn't even know what I was doing—all because most of my peers weren't doing anything related to writing—this made me look odd in the eyes of many.
To sum it all, I was seen as a crazy young fellow. The kind of crazy of a weird looking guy with weird moustache and hair strands that are as tall as Mount Kilimanjaro on his head.
To them, I was going crazy. To me, I was chasing a path that'll impact positively on many lives.
So what did I do?
Did I listen to them telling me shit while dragging myself in pity as though I wasn't doing something good?
No, I didn't.
Even though it had a little effect on me, I still summoned the courage to cut the crap and focus on what I was doing.
Look, people will always be people. You can't stop people from acting in the manner they want. The only thing you can do is to control
your reaction towards what people do to you.
And that, my friend, is easier said than done. But with time, you'll get good at it.
Once your intentions are clear, and you know that the path you're in is in no way bad, then proceed with what you're doing. You need no affirmations.
All you need is to offer a middle finger to whoever is trying to dampen your vibe, and then, own your craziness.
As Wizkid once said in his song, “bad energy stay faraway,” that's how you got to put those kinds of energy (people) behind and do what you have to do.
As I said, own your craziness.
Let them call you whatever they want. As time unfolds, they'll get to know that you weren't crazy. That's when they'll realize that they were the ones who were actually crazy.
John Maxwell, who happens to be an author of many bestselling books once noted, “as you take action to change yourself and your environment, you will certainly be criticized for it.”
So if you're a writer, a poet, or anything else, please be ready to own your craziness, and do your thing.
Don't give in to what people say. Be strong.
Whatever they think, fuck them!
You're you and they can't be you.
Your actions will determine your future.
The question is, are you going to give in or ride on? Whatever it is, it's left for you to answer what exactly you're willing to do to become who you want to be.
Nice piece sir, Waiting for validation and affirmation to the eyes of others may totally ruin your dreams.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, it will. Thanks for taking your time to go through this.
