#08 - Here's Why You Need to Reorient Your Perception About Perfection

First, what is perfection?

“Perfection is a state, variously, of completeness, flawlessness, or supreme excellence." - Wikipedia

The elemental truth is that the desire to be flawless and meticulous in carrying out tasks can be tiring. You'll continue to set high standards for yourself repeatedly. You'll have overweening expectations. And then before you realize it, you become stressed. Thus, making you vulnerable to frustration, dispiritedness and unhappiness, just to name a few.

But then, the desire to attain perfection in whatever you do helps a lot. It makes you scrutinize the task before you inside out. It makes you to pay close attention to the details. Are you writing? Pay attention to your choice of words, your sentences, your punctuations and your clarity of expression. Are you a carpenter? Pay attention to the details of your work. Whatever you do, give it your best by paying attention to the details attached.

All these details, if duely paid attention to, one could be close to being perfect.

On the other hand, trying to attain perfection could be paralyzing. It can make you lose interest in what you do. And that happens when you approach the art of perfection with the wrong mindset. When you desire perfection in whatever you do, don't unnecessarily obsess or worry over it. Because if you do, you'll end up not appreciating all the effort you put in.

Believe me. I meant what I said. It happened to me. I'm saying this out of experience.

There was a time I was thirsty for perfection. My desire for perfection made me a critique. I always looked through my writing with some sort of microscopic lens. I was consumed with unsatisfactoriness. I never appreciated the effort I did put in. It took me time to realize that I had approached being perfect with the wrong mindset.

I kept obsessing and worrying over what I shouldn't even bother about. At the end, I got disinterested in writing. I felt writing isn't my thing. I said to myself I can never do it.

This is exactly what happens whenever you excessively try to attain perfection. It's best that you desire perfection within reasonable limits. The right mindset you ought to develop is simple. Have in mind that you'll do all you can to the best of your ability, and you'll leave the rest in the hands of God the Almighty.

By doing so, you will be near perfect without causing yourself unnecessary frustration, unhappiness, disinterestedness or anything of such.

I hope you enjoyed reading this. Bye, until next time.
